Lack of media coverage indeed; I’d never heard of this case:

Human remains found in an aboriginal community south of Montreal on Tuesday have been identified as those of a woman missing since 2006.

The bones have been identified as those of Tiffany Morrison, 25, from the Kahnawake reserve, officials with the local police force confirmed on Friday.

The remains were found by a construction worker in a wooded area near the Mercier Bridge, which links Montreal to the South Shore region, said Warren White, an investigator with the Kahnawake Mohawk Peacekeepers.

The bones had been covered with some branches, White said.

Morrison was reportedly last seen in a taxi with a man on the Kahnawake reserve, southwest of Montreal, on June 18, 2006.

Morrison’s family had been critical of what it said was a lack of media coverage of her disappearance.

MONTREAL – The man accused in the murder of Natasha Cournoyer has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack on a sex worker.

Claude Larouche, a 48-year-old carpenter, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Cournoyer, 37. Her body was found last October in thick bushes in Pointe aux Trembles.

The woman told police Larouche beat her in her Hochelaga-Maisonneuve home Oct. 17, 16 days after Cournoyer disappeared from the Laval office building where she worked.

Larouche told the sex worker he didn’t want sex, but wanted to talk.

After taking some drugs, he allegedly hit the woman in the face and tried to strangle her. Larouche took off after the woman knocked his glasses off. Police identified him through a DNA sample found on the glasses.

Larouche is no stranger to the criminal justice system, with charges dating back to 1984 in Chicoutimi, Trois Rivières, Joliette, Quebec City and Montreal.

He’s being detained and is due back in court May 25.

Emerging as more than a victim, Misty Cockerill speaks at tonight’s important forum; Offering a new perspective on victims of violence

For many in the Fraser Valley, Misty Cockerill’s name will forever be linked to a brutal attack in 1995 in Abbotsford, when the teenager was beaten and her best friend, Tanya Smith, was killed.
The killer was eventually caught and sentenced to life in prison, but only after he taunted the victims and the community for several months.

Since that time, she grew up, fell in love and had children. She’s a daughter, a friend, a mom, a student. She’s ready to graduate from university and start a career in social work.

The upbeat young woman is a survivor, and from early on after her tragic experience, she became an eloquent voice for survivors of crime.

Cockerill is a panel member tonight at the free Long-term Inmates Now in the Community (L.I.N.C.)-sponsored Every Victim Matters forum in Abbotsford, held in part to mark National Victims of Crime Awareness Week.

Joining her are John Allore and Marjean Fichtenberg, both who have lost loved ones to violent crime. They’ll discuss the on-going trauma endured by those left behind, and what society can do to help them heal.

“Murder victims have multiple deaths,” said Allore, whose sister Theresa was murdered in 1978.
“There is the physical death, but then there is a second death when they are driven into silence by the voices of law enforcement, or the media who co-opt tragedy to tell a story (and in so distort the truth), and in some cases there is the death by the legal community who fashion facts for their own purposes,” he said. “After a criminal death, there is only humiliation.”

Cockerill’s message is to take care of victims of crime, to give them a voice and to help them regain their lives.

“Strength is not just a word, it’s the force that keeps you moving, breathing and laughing,” she said. “There will always be violence and despair. It has followed us since the beginning of time.
“Instead of just trying to prevent violent acts, as a society we need to also learn how to support and nurture the victims of those acts.

“They should not feel as they are the ones being prosecuted.”

For Cockerill, being pushed into the spotlight and giving voice to her experience helped her move on with her life.

“I felt like I had a new role, an advocate role, and it helped me so much,” she said, adding that society tends to focus on the crime, and can sometimes unwittingly hold people in the victim frame of mind.

“People dwell on the event, but for me, it was one hour out of my life. The seven months that followed [until her attacker was caught] were traumatizing, and the months that followed after that,” said Cockerill.

Also speaking is Marjean Fichtenberg, whose son was murdered. She will outline some preliminary findings of a feasibility study to create a healing centre for survivors of homicide, an initiative of the L.I.N.C. Society.

There will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

The event is supported by the University of the Fraser Valley criminal department, and is funded by the Department of Justice. The moderator is Fraser Simmons.

The forum starts tonight at 7 p.m. in Room B101, at the University of the Fraser Valley Abbotsford campus, 33844 King Rd., Abbotsford. Pay parking is in effect.

En bref, j’ai été très occupé avec ma vie. Je suis un peu chaude avec des commentaires de gens comme Mary Diwell suggérant j’ai besoin d’obtenir sur la mienne, et cesser de harceler pauvres Russ Williams avec my armchair-détection.

Mon ami Marjean Fichtenberg et moi avons partagé un bon rire plus de cela lorsque nous étions à Vancouver. Pensez-vous sérieusement que nous sommes comme ça tout le temps? Pensez-vous que nous parlons de cette merde 24-7? Marjean a une famille, enfants, amis … le temps, elle travaille dans la défense au nom du défunt fils lui causer sont l’exception. Et pensez-vous qu’elle ferait si elle ne présente pas les stigmates de la victime / survivante si violemment poussée sur elle?

Sauf pour une des intersections de vie peu (je suis né à Trenton, mon grand-père a travaillé à la base aérienne de Trenton) Je pourrais vous donner un “rats ass” de colonel Williams. J’ai écrit une pièce en Février qui continue d’attirer des commentaires et de la circulation … alors être elle. Les gens veulent parler, laissons-les faire, je ne suis certainement pas se joindre à la fête, ce n’est pas ma scène. Je ne vais certainement pas de réduire le mou Williams. Je trouve intéressant le cas légèrement, en partie parce que je sais l’endroit où les meurtres nous nous sommes engagés assez bien. C’est tout. Oh, et aussi, je n’ai absolument aucune sympathie pour les gars, je ne pense que le moment est venu de quitter la seule communauté à guérir – bien que ce temps viendra.

Je vous écris au sujet d’un petit nombre de cas qui m’intéressent si je bide mon temps à attendre pour trouver des indices qui permettra de résoudre de Cold Case-Thérèsa Allore. Parce que si je n’ai pas – si je l’ai arrêté, et a complètement nouveau à ma vie – c’est ce qui se passerait: les personnes atteintes d’information pourrait aller, “hey, je dois contacter la famille! Non, attendez, peut-être je ne devrais pas … ne l’ont pas entendu parler de cette affaire depuis un certain temps. Occurred there over 30 years, the murder of Theresa Allore was run
lot of ink over the decades. This young college students has been
found dead in the River Coaticook, Eastern Townships, in April 1979, five
months after having disappeared from the campus of Champlain College in Lennoxville.
The case resurfaced in 2002 when the brother of the victim
contributed to the writing of a chapter in a textbook on a new
technique of solving crime, geographic profiling. Authors
advance the thesis that the young woman was the victim of a serial killer.
Moreover, that same serial killer is probably the author of two
other murders in the Sherbrooke area, that of Louise
Camirand, occurred in 1977, and that of Manon Dubé, 1978. Following
these revelations, the SQ has reopened three cases classified for
whether they were actually related. But for now, these
three crimes remain unpunished.

What happened to Sonia Raymond?

The mystery still hangs about the tragic fate of Sonia Raymond
found dead on a beach of Maria, Gaspésie, July 27, 1996. The
32 year old woman, a native of Rimouski, was visiting the Bay
Chaleurs attend a wedding. The day of drama, Sonia Raymond was
party for a walk on a beach crowded. His body
was found partially undressed in the evening by a passerby. Autopsy
later revealed that her jugular vein was cut a few strokes
“A sharp object” to the throat. In this case, several tracks
have been explored by the SQ in vain. A man, a sex offender
repeat offender in the region, was considered a suspect without

calls following a television report on the case of Raymond. If

The double murder of Turret

Here is another case that rocked the region of Gaspésie. May
1995, a man finds blood in the residence of his parents, which seems

Claudette Servant and Victorian Valley in a stream about twenty

The heinous murder of Saint-Paul-de-Joliette

The body of Roland Landry, 77, Marcel Landry, 79, and Margaret
Landry, 89, were found one morning in December 1999 by their brother
75 years who had to jump to their home in Saint-Paul-de-
Joliette for coffee. According to information distributed
the time, the old have been victims of carnage. The
SQ has publicly stated that it had little information on
case. For the second time in its history, the police even
offered a reward of $ 50 000, drawn from its budget. Moreover,
Squad crimes against the person has even produced the tree
family genealogy and met nearly 300 people to try
to advance the case. But the killers remain.

The mystery of the death of Guylaine Potvin

Guylaine Potvin’s murder, which occurred in April 2000 in Jonquière
traumatized the student community of the region. The young woman, who
attended Cégep de Jonquière, was found dead, naked in his bed.
His story has resurfaced this year when the arrest of Claude
Larouche, accused of the murder of Natasha Cournoyer last October. The
similarity of the two crimes and the fact that Larouche is originally from
Jonquière have raised doubts about the possible link between the two
business. Police officials, however, indicated a month later
that DNA Larouche not correspond to any unsolved murder cases.
The murder of Guylaine Potvin, however, was linked to an attempt
murder and sexual assault occurred in July 2000 against a
Student Sainte-Foy.

L’affaire Theresa Allore

Survenu il y a plus de 30 ans, le meurtre de Theresa Allore a fait couler beaucoup d’encre au fil des décennies. Cette jeune cégépienne a été trouvée morte dans la rivière Coaticook, en Estrie, en avril 1979, cinq mois après avoir disparu du campus du collège Champlain à Lennoxville. Cette affaire a refait surface en 2002, lorsque le frère de la victime a contribué à l’écriture d’un chapitre dans un manuel sur une nouvelle technique de résolution de crimes, le profilage géographique. Les auteurs avancent la thèse que la jeune femme a été la proie d’un tueur en série. Plus encore, que ce même tueur en série est probablement l’auteur de deux autres meurtres commis dans la région de Sherbrooke, celui de Louise Camirand, survenu en 1977, et celui de Manon Dubé, en 1978. Qu’est-il arrivé à Sonia Raymond?

Le mystère plane toujours quant au tragique destin de Sonia Raymond, trouvée morte sur une plage de Maria, en Gaspésie, le 27 juillet 1996. La femme de 32 ans, originaire de Rimouski, était en visite dans la baie des Chaleurs pour assister à un mariage. Le jour du drame, Sonia Raymond était partie faire une promenade sur une plage très fréquentée. Son corps partiellement dévêtu a été découvert en soirée par un passant. L’autopsie a révélé plus tard que sa veine jugulaire a été tranchée de quelques coups «d’un objet tranchant» à la gorge. Dans cette affaire, plusieurs pistes ont été explorées par la SQ, en vain. Un homme, un agresseur sexuel multirécidiviste de la région, a été considéré comme un suspect sans jamais être accusé de quoi que ce soit. En 2008, la SQ a reçu des dizaines d’appels à la suite d’un reportage télévisé sur l’affaire Raymond. Si les informations du public n’ont pas mené à l’arrestation du meurtrier, la famille a toutefois été replongée dans le drame. «Ça retourne le fer dans la plaie, a alors indiqué le frère de la victime, Guylain, au quotidien Le Soleil. Mais il peut y avoir un proche du meurtrier qui sait des choses. Si c’était possible de fermer le dossier pour mes parents qui ont 78 et 69 ans. Tous les soirs, quand on se couche, on a des flash-back.»

Le double meurtre de Tourelle

Voici une autre affaire qui a secoué la région de la Gaspésie. En mai 1995, un homme trouve du sang dans la résidence de ses parents, qui semble avoir été cambriolée. La voiture du couple a également disparu. L’automobile est découverte le jour même. Le coffre et les pare-chocs sont couverts de sang. Un mois plus tard, un jeune couple découvre les corps de Claudette Servant et Victorien Vallée dans un ruisseau à une vingtaine de kilomètres de la résidence. Au cours des années, le dossier a été réexaminé à quelques reprises à la suite de la divulgation d’informations du public. Les enquêteurs auraient également interrogé près de 900 personnes pour tenter d’élucider l’affaire, sans succès. La SQ aurait toutefois une idée de l’identité des auteurs de ce crime, mais n’a jamais disposé de suffisamment de preuves pour soumettre le dossier à un procureur.

Les meurtres crapuleux de Saint-Paul-de-Joliette

Les corps de Rolland Landry, 77 ans, Marcel Landry, 79 ans, et Marguerite Landry, 89 ans, ont été trouvés un matin de décembre 1999 par leur frère de 75 ans qui venait faire un saut à leur résidence de Saint-Paul-de-Joliette pour prendre un café. Selon les informations diffusées à l’époque, les vieillards auraient été victimes d’un véritable carnage. La SQ a publiquement affirmé qu’elle disposait de peu d’informations sur l’affaire. Pour la deuxième fois de son histoire, le corps policier a même offert une récompense de 50 000$, puisée à même ses budgets. Par ailleurs, l’escouade des crimes contre la personne a même fait produire l’arbre généalogique de la famille et rencontré près de 300 personnes pour tenter de faire avancer l’affaire. Mais les meurtriers courent toujours.

Le mystère de la mort de Guylaine Potvin

Le meurtre de Guylaine Potvin, survenu en avril 2000 à Jonquière, a traumatisé la communauté étudiante de la région. La jeune femme, qui fréquentait le cégep de Jonquière, a été trouvée morte, nue, dans son lit. Son histoire a refait surface cette année lors de l’arrestation de Claude Larouche, accusé du meurtre de Natasha Cournoyer en octobre dernier. La similitude des deux crimes et le fait que Larouche soit originaire de Jonquière ont suscité des doutes quant au lien possible entre les deux affaires. Les autorités policières ont toutefois indiqué un mois plus tard que l’ADN de Larouche ne correspondait à aucun cas de meurtre non résolu. Le meurtre de Guylaine Potvin a toutefois été lié à une tentative de meurtre et une agression sexuelle survenues en juillet 2000 contre une étudiante de Sainte-Foy.

The Surete du Quebec – ever endearing themselves to Townships’ communities – have decided to call off their search for a missing 4-year-old boy. I would chalk this up to further proof of provincial police incompetence, but I suspect this time the SQ is justified, and knows something it’s not giving up just yet. This all sounds a little too perfect:

MONTREAL – Sûreté du Québec officials may have called off the search for 4-year-old Nicolas Pineault, but the residents of Ste. Clotilde de Horton are not giving up hope just yet.

A number of volunteers from the village of 1,700 residents continued to comb the waters and banks of the Nicolet River on Saturday, hoping to uncover some clue as to what might have happened to Nicolas after he vanished from the yard of his family’s home on Lemire Rd. about 3 p.m. Wednesday. One of his parents had left him for a few moments, and returned to find the boy was gone, police said.

The preschooler’s tuque was found Friday about four kilometres from the home, but SQ divers and ground search crews found no other sign of him, and called off their search around 7 p.m. Friday night.

“The divers have done all they could do with the information we had,” Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Ann Mathieu said late Friday. “The search will remain suspended until there is some element or new information that will give us some indication” of how to continue.

The hat found Friday belongs to the missing boy’s brother, police said, but Nicolas was wearing it when he vanished. The parents have confirmed that it is definitely the hat Nicolas was wearing.

Nicolas was last seen wearing a blue coat with a yellow hood, green pants, and yellow rubber boots, along with the tuque. He is white, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Au dire de Richard Gagné, porte-parole de la SQ, les recherches sont suspendues, à moins d’éléments nouveaux.

Hier après-midi, la famille et les chercheurs ont eu une lueur d’espoir alors que la tuque du bambin a été retrouvée accrochée à une pointe de terre sur le bord de la rivière.

Nicolas Pineault, 4 ans et demi, jouait à l’extérieur, mercredi après-midi, lorsqu’il a échappé à l’attention de ses parents.
