York Regional Police detective Mike Amato’s testimony was short, but chilling. The questions centered around the notion of money laundering. Amato stated the Mafia was into almost every legitimate business in Ontario where they could make a profit including trucking (no surprise) and stock market manipulation (frightening).
He said in many cases the Mafia would often create conflict between two parties so that they could be in for a piece of the tribute money. These guys could be soccer coaches by day, and something quite different at night.
The commission resumes this afternoon with an unspecified agenda. They will recess for Friday and begin again Monday morning.
